This buggy was designed by the architect Gerrit Thomas Rietveld (1888-1964), an imortant member of the Dutch art movement known as De Stijl (1917-1932). It was designed in 1918 as part of a range that was primarily intended for use by his children. The range included a child’s chair and cot, a sledge, a wheelbarrow and this pull along buggy. They proved very popular and although none of the original series appears to have survived. This one was made in c1968 by G. van de Groenekan, his cabinet maker.
